Birding

Birds of a Feather

Dinokeng is one of South Africa’s prime bird watching areas, and is second only to Ndumo in the St Lucia area in terms of its numbers of bird species, making this a twitcher’s paradise! The close proximity of water, grassland and bushveld habitats attracts a wide variety of birds in a relatively small area.

A wide variety of woodland habitats, including very fine broadleaved woodland, which is host to a number of bird specials. The area is good for raptors such as African Cuckoo-Hawk, Lizard Buzzard and Black-breasted Snake Eagle. Most local birders come here for woodland specials such a Greencapped Eremomela, Tinkling Cisticola and Pallid Flycatcher.
